Television is one of my favorite things. Through the years TV has come up with some really cool cars to have characters driving around in while they are fighting / preventing crime. This is my list of the Top 11 Coolest Crime-Fighting Cars on Television. Of course there were a few that came very close to making the cut in my opinion, but just didn’t quite make it. So this first page is all about the honorable mentions list.

The A-Team Van – While it was just a plain GMC van with a really cool paint job it could be rigged up in all sorts of ways and at times take as much of a beating as a tank could. With Mr. T around it could be almost as versatile as The Batmobile. The ONLY reason it is relegated to the Honorable Mentions list is because most of the time it wasn’t really out “fighting crime”. It was always doing good in some way, but not necessarily preventing crimes.

Jim Rockford’s Pontiac Firebird Espirit – Even those that never liked The Rockford Files, or didn’t know much about the show have some knowledge of his gold Firebird. I was never a big fan of the show. Given that and the fact that I have a much cooler Firebird in my Top 11, Rockford’s car stays on the HM list.

Stingray’s 1965 Corvette Stingray – Nick Mancuso portrays Ray who offers up his services, but not for money. Instead if you need his help you will “owe him one” in a way. He will come to collect some time in the future when he needs your area of expertise to help a new client. This is another situation where he wasn’t exactly fighting crime, but with his coolness and the lack of a ‘Vette anywhere on my list I had to add it to the HM list.

Colt Seavers’s GMC Sierra Grande 4X4 Pickup Truck – The Fall Guy’s truck was the General Lee of trucks. Just like on the Duke’s of Hazzard it was used to make many jumps with hard landings every time. This of course led to quite a few trucks needing to be replaced. Producers got smart though and had a tougher reinforced truck made just for the jumps. The Unknown Stuntman put this two-tone brown and tan pickup into the halls of pop culture to be remembered forever.

The Black Beauty – Kato was a super crime-fighting genius who never got enough credit. It was all about the Green Hornet. Britt, Britt, Britt! (Sorry Brady Bunch moment there.) Kato took a mid-60s Black Chrysler Imperial Crown and turned it into his own personal Batmobile. Of course the Batmobile didn’t have guns and rocket launchers coming out of every orifice. Built into the dashboard was a state of the art car phone hidden behind a double length glove compartment door. In the center column instead of an ashtray were the controls for the tracking system stashed away in the trunk. The two best features on the Black Beauty however were the retractable brooms that would come out behind the back tires to “cover their tracks”, and the green night vision headlights. Kato could switch from the normal headlights to the green ones and bring down a green screen from the sun visor to allow him an advantage while driving at night. The Black Beauty was probably the HM car that came closest to making the Top 11.

Maxwell Smart’s Sunbeam Tiger – Agent 86′s memorable red Sunbeam Tiger probably would have made the Top 11 had it lasted the entire series. It was used in one of the best opening sequences to a show, delivering Max to CONTROL headquarters every week. Its best feature of course was the cannon stashed away under the hood. It was good enough that when it came time to make the Get Smart movie in 2008 the car of choice was the red 1965 Sunbeam Tiger.

I know many people will argue B.A.’s van or Kato’s car should be on the actual Top 11 list, but this is how I broke it down.

Now let’s get to the Top 11 Coolest Crime-Fighting Cars on Television list!
