Top 11 Elizabeth Taylor Movies Tournament/Survey Introduction and Movie Seeding

With the passing of Elizabeth Taylor I thought it would be a good idea to post a Top 11 Elizabeth Taylor Movies list. Then I decided that it was not for me to decide what her Top 11 Movies were. With it being the time of year where we have March Madness for college basketball the idea of having a tournament/survey to decide her Top 11 movies came to me.

So, I found 3 Elizabeth Taylor movie fans and along with me, I had a “selection committee” just like they do in college basketball. The four of us each ranked ALL of Liz’s movies. Each position was given a set amount of points. Being ranked first by one of us was worth 32 points, ranked second worth 31 points, and so on down to the #32 ranked film earning 1 point. All four of our lists were then compiled and ranked by highest point totals. This then determined the seeding for the brackets below.

Now for that ranking process the most points that could be earned was 32X4, so a maximum of 128 points. The #1 overall seed was Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? with 123 points. That was followed by the other three #1 seeds: A Place in the Sun (115), Suddenly Last Summer (105), and Father of the Bride (101). The rest continued on from there with the first #2 seed, Cleopatra (99), and so on.

The #8 seeded movies were in order: Boom (29), The Girl Who Had Everything (27), The Blue Bird (25), and the field was rounded out with the #32 ranked movie The Flintstones (21). Yes, it only took being ranked low on two of the lists for The Flintstones to make the cut.

Of course each of us on the selection committee had out own preferences as four different films were ranked in the #1 spot. They were: Cleopatra, The V.I.P.s, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. As you can see only one of them ranked high enough on all four lists to pull down a #1 seed. The others came in as #2 and #3 seeds. I think the ranking system worked out pretty well though, and am pleased with the way the brackets came out.
